None of us can escape the news. We trip on it in the morning; it fills our ears for the commute; it stares at us at work. All day we hear the politicians’ grouse or the comedians’ spoof. We rejoice over a 1% gain in the Dow one day and lament when it falls by the same the next day. For 24 hours, we’re at the grips of reporters, politicians, and a constant propaganda machine.

American Compass was founded in 2009 with a different vision: empower the public with balanced information to strengthen minds and spirit. American Compass will never support the propaganda machine which manipulates your emotions everyday. Incessant information is not more information. Real news does not change minute by minute. Human spirit and morality cannot change so quickly.

So, we created a journal to give you news that does not expire after you read it. These stories have the future in mind and individual liberty at heart. There are no ads on American Compass and no corporate sponsors. This is the public’s news source, not Corporate America’s.

How can we be so confident about our aims? American Compass does not employ journalists. We do not have a party affiliation. AC does not believe any story has a  single right viewpoint. Our stories are nuanced and deeply researched. Writers for American Compass are volunteers stationed around the country who have real jobs and real experiences. They offer insight outsiders in the media have to fabricate.
