President Donald Trump on Friday abruptly halted trade talks with Canada, citing the country’s plans to collect new taxes from large tech companies including Meta, Google, Amazon and other U.S. businesses.

Daniel Kishi, policy adviser at American Compass, a center-right group, highlighted that inflation continues to fall and that the S&P 500 recently hit a new high despite economists’ fears of the tariffs. “If you compare where things stand now compared to where he took office, he has reset the baseline,” said Kishi.
