A Note of Introduction

WASHINGTON, DC — American Compass announced today that it has added three new members to its board of directors: Robert Lighthizer, Jonathan Baron, and Neil Patel. They each bring to the role invaluable experience and insight on public policy, the political landscape, conservative thought, and organizational excellence.

“In its first year, American Compass established itself as the flagship for conservative economics and a vital contributor to many of the nation’s most important policy debates,” said Oren Cass, the organization’s founder and executive director. “Our board has been invaluable to this success, and we are both proud and fortunate to be adding three leaders who will bring such deep and diverse expertise to the team.”

Ambassador Robert Lighthizer served as the United States Trade Representative from 2017–21, following decades as a leading practitioner of international trade law. His work negotiating U.S. trade agreements and redefining the U.S.–China relationship delivered some of the most consequential achievements of the Trump administration.

Jonathan Baron is the principal of Baron Public Affairs, which he founded in 2006. He has advised some of the world’s most important organizations, including members of the Fortune 10 and the U.S. Department of Defense, on developing strategy and mitigating political risk.

Neil Patel is the publisher of the Daily Caller, which he co-founded with Tucker Carlson in 2010. He previously served as chief policy advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney and is also the co-founder and managing director of Bluebird Asset Management.

Baron, Lighthizer, and Patel join Cass; David Azerrad, Hillsdale College assistant professor and research fellow; Michael Needham, chief of staff to Senator Marco Rubio; and Julius Krein, founder and editor of American Affairs, on the American Compass board. All institutional affiliations are provided for identification purposes only.
