The rise of a populist, working-class conservatism in American has left both pundits and politicians asking: But what’s the plan? Rebuilding American Capitalism: A Handbook for Conservative Policymakers, the culmination of American Compass’s efforts to chart a new course for conservative economics, provides the comprehensive answer.
“American Compass is pioneering a thoughtful and innovative vision of conservative economics that will shape discussions on the right for years to come,” said Senator Tom Cotton. “Compass is doing as much or more to shape the national conversation and our economic policy than Washington’s largest think tanks,” said Senator Marco Rubio.
Across six key topics—Globalization, Financialization, Industry, Family, Education, and Labor—Rebuilding American Capitalism presents a series of concrete policy proposals alongside memos from leading policy experts who form the new Compass Advisory Board, including Amb. Robert Lighthizer, Hon. Jeff Sessions, Julius Krein, Brad Wilcox, and Ashley Rogers Berner.
Proposals include: establishing a 10% global tariff; imposing local content requirements on critical goods; establishing a financial transaction tax; providing a monthly cash benefit to working families with children; creating a workforce training grant; and allowing broad-based collective bargaining to supplant some federal regulation.

Praise for American Compass
“American Compass has been an invaluable partner in steering the conservative movement in a more pro-family, pro-worker direction. If we are to succeed in building a new economic agenda that actually serves the interests of working people in this country, it will be in large part thanks to the hard work and rigorous policy analysis they continue to produce.” —Senator J.D. Vance
“It’s extraordinary what American Compass has accomplished in just a few short years. Compass is doing as much or more to shape the national conversation and our economic policy than Washington’s largest think tanks. I look to American Compass for advice and ideas, and the number of my colleagues who do also is staggering.” —Senator Marco Rubio
“American Compass is pioneering a thoughtful and innovative vision of conservative economics that will shape discussions on the right for years to come.” —Senator Tom Cotton
“American Compass is a vital partner in our efforts to advance policies like the CHIPS and Science Act that build an industrial strategy for America’s economic and national security. Their work on conservative economics is changing how policymaking happens in Washington.” —Senator Todd Young
