WASHINGTON—Gail Slater, former Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, has joined American Compass in the role of Competition and Technology Policy Chair. She will advise on those issues and continue her public work advancing a conservative vision for the robust competition policy necessary to protect free markets.

Slater most recently served with distinction as Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division after the U.S. Senate confirmed her appointment by a strong bipartisan vote of 78-19. She brings more than 25 years of antitrust experience across both government and the private sector, including roles at the National Economic Council in the first Trump administration working on telecommunications and cybersecurity issues, and as economic policy adviser to then-Senator JD Vance.

“In both her government service and public advocacy, Gail has already had a transformative impact on antitrust enforcement and competition policy,” said founder and chief economist Oren Cass. “She exemplifies the spirit of intellectual combat and personal civility that we aim to promote and we are thrilled for the opportunity to work closely with her.”

“I am grateful to American Compass for all it has done to advance a hugely needed and relevant policy debate on the right,” said Slater. “I am even more grateful that the group will include me in that debate and I look forward to working with the impressive team under Oren’s leadership.”

As the home for intellectual leaders shaping the future of conservative economics, American Compass expects to grow its team substantially in the coming year. Slater’s new role represents the beginning of this growth.
