Conservative senators walking the picket line with striking autoworkers, signing on to pro-labor resolutions with Bernie Sanders, and voting against a rail worker contract because it was not favorable enough to workers. The right-of-center is changing its tune on labor issues, but what is the coherent, conservative theory of labor policy?
The Conservative Partnership Institute and American Compass hosted a Conservative Labor Policy Forum to answer just that question. The Forum began with a conversation between American Compass’s Executive Director Oren Cass and Compact Magazine Founding Editor Sohrab Ahmari, author of the recently published Tyranny, Inc., on the principles that should guide a new conservative approach to labor. Then, Senator J.D. Vance and CPI President & CEO Ed Corrigan discussed the state of the conservative movement’s relationship to labor and the political challenges of focusing attention on the interests of American workers.
